Velo MSM – Mountain Fest! July 18-20, 2014

See the Velo MSM website for more the most up to date details!

MountainFestLogoMountain Fest, July 18th to 20th at Mont Ste-Marie. Three days of epic biking, fun and challenging races, an industry expo including bike demos, music, and lots of activities for the whole family.

You may be wondering why Mountain Fest came to be – there are two main reasons.

Firstly, we want to unveil what has become an excellent trail network to the broader mountain biking community. Velo MSM now has over 25 KM of pristine single track catering to a variety of abilities. Located about an hour from Ottawa, it’s well worth the drive and we want our fellow mountain bikers to know it!

The second reason is as a fundraiser. Building trails to such high standards is a difficult (and expensive) proposition. The community at large has been incredibly generous, with both their time spent trail-building and through monetary and in-kind donations. We wanted to host an event that would allow us to raise the funds needed to continue the development of the trail network, while at the same time, giving back to our donors by offering an extraordinarily fun weekend at a reasonable price.

We hope you’ll come out to see what Mountain Fest and Velo MSM are all about!

July 18th – 20th 2014

The chairlift will run all day Saturday and Sunday.

Featured Events

Taylor’s Tower of Power Unveiling

The official opening of the festival. Velo MSM will provide an overview of the development activities and then cut the ribbon on TToP, perhaps the premiere trail in the entire region. Following the ribbon cutting there will be the official inaugural ride of the trail.

Tour de Cheval Blanc

A time trial start single stage race. It is a friendly event, with all trails traveled being blue square (intermediate) difficulty. It is also one of the only (or maybe the only!) race that begins with a chairlift ride. You start riding the chairlift and the moment you disembark at the top the clock starts!

The route will take you down the mountain, up a little, and then into a short 7km descent! After that, a quick loop will bring you right back to the lodge where you started. Total ride time will be in excess of 1 hr.

Velo MSM 50/50 Poker Run

A variation on a standard poker run. Entry is $10, and it is a 50/50 event. You ride to each of the 5 checkpoints, and collect a card at random. After you collect all 5 cards you proceed to the 1pm ‘playing of the hand’. The best hand wins 50% of the proceeds, with the other half going to the Velo MSM trail building fund. People can still participate without a donation, but will not eligible for the 50% winnings.

Watch for our updates, as events will be added on an ongoing basis.

  • The Vanier Express high speed chairlift will be running all day Saturday and Sunday
  • Washrooms and Showers on site

Bike Demos

Rocky Mountain Bicycles and Xprezo Cycles will be on site with their demo fleets, as well as to answer questions about their steeds.

Industry Expo

Various industry types from bike manufacturers to local retailers will be on hand to answer questions, ride with you, and otherwise make it an incredible experience. The list of Expo exhibitors will be updated on an ongoing basis.

Velo Mont Ste Marie is a not for profit organization. Mountain Fest is the major fundraising activity for the year, with all profits from the festival going straight back to building and improving the trail network.
