SUMMARY:SMH Group Ride
DESCRIPTION:Meeting Point: Main South March Trail head at the intersection of Second Line and Klondike\nPost Ride social at St Louis Bar and Grill – 5035 Innovation Dr\, Kanata\, ON K2K 0L5\nReady to ride: 6:30pm\nEvent: https://www.facebook.com/groups/17529124824/events. (check the event for details on the Facebook page) \nExpectation: Rides will be broken down into groups (described below) and designated as “no drop” so the groups will stay together. Groups will be kept to around 8 riders including lead and sweep for best flow. These rides are intended to be a positive and supportive outing. Riders should be self sufficient as in having a spare tube\, pump or CO2 and some knowledge on the workings of their bike. For South March a mountain bike is required\, it is recommended tires be 2.2 inches or greater in size. \nWaivers: Please make sure you bring a signed copy of our waiver if not a current OMBA member. Members waivers forms are taken care as part of the registration. Waivers to download can be found at: https://ottawamba.org/day-pass-waiver/\nWeather cancellation will be decided by 4PM. Cancellations could be due to expected weather (High winds\, lightning) or if conditions are too wet and will cause excessive damage to the trails. \nD Group:\nRide Leader: Kevin\nSweep: TBD\nLevel: Beginner rider but not new to trail riding.\nExpectation: Our D group rides are geared towards riders that are starting to explore South March but are not new to the concept of riding single track or ungroomed trails with rocks and roots.\nThe Ride: D Group will ride the core trails such as Dogsled\, Coconut\, and Shadows Ridge to introduce the trails and build confidence. Expect frequent stops to regroup.\nRide Duration: 90 min typically early in the season and depending on the group. \nC Group:\nRide Leader: Mike\nSweep: TBD\nLevel: Beginner to Intermediate rider\nExpectation: The C group starting this year will be geared for riders that are starting to ride trails such as PWT (Pete’s Wicked Trail) but may not be comfortable riding it solo for example. C group rides have the expectation of frequent stops at more challenging sections and to regroup.\nThe Ride: Early season rides will explore the core trails and eventually PWT\, possibly not the full trail depending on the group but the goal will be to complete PWT in either direction over the season.\nDuration: Expect to be on the bike 90 min to 2 hours keeping in mind frequent stops to regroup and allow riders room to do more technical sections. \nB Group:\nRide Leader(s): Neil\nSweep: TBD\nLevel: Intermediate to Advanced rider\nExpectation: B Group Rides are ideal for the rider that can ride either PWT OR Outback in the indicated time frame not necessarily clean (free of having to step off the pedals) but not riding at your maximum limit. Typically riders in this group frequent SMH and are building their skills by observing other riders or looking for more of a social ride.\nThe Ride: These rides will typically focus on PWT with a mix of other core trails and as the season progresses may switch to Outback depending on audience and duration of daylight.\nDuration: These rides will be between 90 min and 2 hours but with shorter stops to regroup and then continue. \nA Group:\nRide Leader: Kyle\nSweep: TBD\nLevel: Advanced Rider\nExpectation: Typical A Group riders are capable of riding both PWT and Outback in the allotted time without overextending themselves. Since this is the most advanced group of riders ride leaders will be prioritized for the other groups so some weeks this ride may be consider “self lead”\nThe Ride: These rides will be driven by the group but will typically explore the more advanced trails with the expectation of reasonable pace the full ride with short\, quick stops.\nDuration: These rides will typically be the full 2 hours with the majority of the time moving.

This event is a judgement free zone where we will ride the trails at a pace that works for you.\n• We will have ride groups for different levels\, but you should have some experience riding mountain bikes (XC\, enduro\, or DH).\n• Below are descriptions of each ride group level. All groups are “no drop\,” so groups stay together and no one gets left behind! Our aim is to have small groups of no more than 6 riders\, including a ride leader and a sweep.\n• Cruising Koalas: This group is for riders who are new to riding downhill! This group will stick to the blue trails and ride Salamander\, and may venture out into some easier sections of the black trails if there is an appetite. We will ride the blue trails at a relaxed pace\, and we’ll stop to check out the harder features – and no big deal if you want to skip them!\n• Charging Chinchillas: This group is for riders who have some downhill experience\, but have never ridden the downhill trails at Camp Fortune. You venture into black trails\, but you don’t ride every feature. This group will ride black trails like Q-Cup\, National and No Name at a chill pace\, and we’ll stop to check out the harder features – and no big deal if you want to skip them!\n• Mountain Goats: This group is for riders who are familiar with Camp Fortune’s downhill trails. We will ride the black trails and won’t stop at any features (unless requested!). But that doesn’t mean we’re not here to party! We will still make stops down the hill to make sure we’re all together and riding at a pace that works for everyone.\n• Not sure which group is for you? No worries! Just show up and we will make sure you’re in a group that’s the right fit.\n• What should you bring?\n• Protective gear: A full face helmet is not mandatory\, but recommended. Put on some elbow and knee pads\, and a chest protector if you have one too.\n• A signed waiver: Please make sure you bring a signed copy of our waiver if you’re not a current OMBA member. For members\, your waiver is taken care of as part of the registration. Waivers to download can be found at: https://ottawamba.org/day-pass-waiver/\n• A Camp Fortune lift pass: Camp Fortune has been kind enough to offer a 25% off discount on a lift pass for the event. These must be purchased in-person at the lodge\n• Tools: Camp Fortune has some rough terrain! Riders should bring some tools and a spare tube with them – but no need to bring them on the ride. If anything happens we will head down to the parking lot and help you out.\n• A note about the weather: A weather cancellation will be decided by 2PM on the day of the event. Cancellations could be due to expected weather (High winds\, lightning) or if conditions are too wet.\nSee you all there!!
