We’re Stoked! – Carlington Bike Park
We’re fortunate to have great riding trails in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, with more opening every year. And we’re excited to announce that the Ontario Trillium Foundation has awarded OMBA-AVMO $150,000 for the construction of the Carlington Bike Park!
The bike park, located in central Ottawa, will be accessible by bike path and bus routes. It will include a pump track and skills area where riders of all ages and abilities can participate. The track will be a welcome addition and evolution to the region’s expanding network of mountain bike trails and BMX tracks. A dedicated bike park is a safe and controlled place to learn and practice skills and techniques that will help get more youths and riders of all ages take part in all styles of riding.
“If you’re new to mountain biking, a skills park is a great way learn basic handling skills and gain confidence before venturing out on trails”, said Sandra Beaubien, President of OMBA-AVMO. “As an experienced rider, it’s a great way to hone your technique. A pump track can be as easy or as difficult as you make it.”
The project, started in the summer of 2016, has taken a lot of hours from many dedicated volunteers to get ready for breaking ground. Construction will begin in July of 2019, and professional trail designers will build and install the features.
None of this would be possible without the generous help of our community donors and the support of the City of Ottawa and the Parks and Recreation department.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded more than $120 million to some 700 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
We’re stoked.
And we want you to be too!
